The following is a note written by me:

Hi everyone,
In the beginning of this year there was a serious problem beyond my control that caused me to ask for somebody to inherit OpenMedia. Fortunately I was able to continue to develop OpenMedia, but I need your help.

I would like to form a group of people who can help me develop and manage OpenMedia. If you would like to join me in developing and managing OpenMedia, please leave a comment below that includes your email so I can contact you. (Or just email: orb.omdmc@gmail.com)

Thanks,
Orb

OrbOrb,

Advanced

Drew SDrew S,

Whatr is the main difference?

Drew SDrew S,

I would like to help: downstreambeta@me.com
I would like to help you.

Josh S.Josh S.,

Hey! Its Josh from Me-OS.. I would like to help a small bit, if that is ok.. (Got too busy for Me-OS)

OrbOrb,

Ok, please leave your email. Or just mail me at: orb.omdmc@gmail.com

Drew SDrew S,

On your website it says you shut down ME-OS

M_OrdinateurM_Ordinateur,

Hello,
Can I join your project?
I’ve been developing appliances (like SymplyOS) for almost 3 years, and I’m interested in helping OpenMedia.
You can contact me at : support [AT] symplyos.com
Oh, and I can also provide things like a subdomain such as “orb.symplyos.com” for example.

OrbOrb,

Yes, but with all the upstream branding instead of sure branding.

Zack LemanskiZack Lemanski,

Hello, my name is Zack. I am only 12 years old but that does not change my love for technology. My E-Mail is lemanski_z@yahoo.com.

OrbOrb,

Thank you for your interest, an email has been sent to you.

AndrewAndrew,

Can I contribute packages?

OrbOrb,

Maybe, email me at: contactorb12@gmail.com
I would like to discuss it with you.

AndrewAndrew,

As a lot of net book-oriented appliances are made by me,I sure could collaborate with you on one that is based on NimbleX or Suse.
(Ubuntu is fine, too.)

SeeOfMyGabaSeeOfMyGaba,

Your system is great!

OrbOrb,

Thanks for trying it out!

KevrevKevrev,

This is great stuff, I’ll try it, but was hoping for a 64bit version. Is 12.1 in the works also?
Thanks for your efforts!

OrbOrb,

No problem, a 12.1 version is in the works! It should be released by the end of this month.

OrbOrb,

And 64bit version on the way too!

OrbOrb,

64bit version has arrived!

http://susestudio.com/a/0AgxEj/openmedia-imported

AndrewAndrew,

I am thinking of making a server version of Suduntu. Can I access a tutorial on that?

ZebulonZebulon,

Tried the test drive – X is not starting.
Kind regards,
Zebulon

OrbOrb,

Sorry, this will be fixed in the next release.

sekharsekhar,

So is there any website for your OS?

OrbOrb,

Not right now, I’m working on it.

OrbOrb,

Website is online!

Mohammad Umar TechnologyMohammad Umar Technology,

Hey I Need Help
Can i Make My Own Messenger in SUSE Studio
Can i Make Operating System

OrbOrb,

Thanks for your comment! You cannot make your own Messenger in SUSE Studio, but you can make your own Operating System

Did you like OpenMedia?

Techo GeckoTecho Gecko,

Can i be a developer for Buddy?

OrbOrb,

Sure!

NANOSOFTNANOSOFT,

can I suggest a new system i would like it if you made it with the xpde desktop environment please call it whatever you want but please make it download link for xpde is right here/http://xpde.holobit.net/releases.php

OrbOrb,

Hmm………. Ok, I’ll do it.

OrbOrb,

Wait! How do i build an XPde system? I can’t find it in the repositories.

NANOSOFTNANOSOFT,

my guess is download xpde and add it to system put it the directory where a gui would be stored :)

LasseLasse,

Very usefull appliance, but how do you add your logo into the “start menu”

OrbOrb,

Sorry for the late answer. You go into testdrive with your logo as an overlay file with easy access (for example in the home folder) and in KDE go to the KMenu and right click, then select the option that says change picture, or change logo. the rest is self explanatory.

LasseLasse,

Thanks for the help Orb, it really works.

js1148js1148,

very nice. I am just beginning with appliances, but it still looks great

OrbOrb,

OpenMedia or Fantasia?

js1148js1148,

Open Media

OrbOrb,

plz review my new netbook appliance, Buddy

RTSIRTSI,

I will consider inheriting.
mattjadusable@yahoo.com

Dylan BushDylan Bush,

i want it email me at gogo101@live.com
dylan bush.

windhelpwindhelp,

I’ll inherit it.
Email me if you want to give it to me.

AndrewAndrew,

I want that! Can I be the main developer?

jsa005jsa005,

@Orb I’ll help develop OpenMedia, but stay on susestudio/gallery. I may need some help!
P.S. I am not highly experienced, but I have been on SUSE Studio for about a year now.

OrbOrb,

I will wait and see if more candidates come in, if not you got it, and I’m not leaving suse studio/gallery, just can’t develop any more. I will be able to answer any questions

jsa005jsa005,

Great! I’m developing an OS called JSATos at the moment and it’s in beta now. I’ll release a link to the beta soon. I’m happy to continue the OpenMedia OS but what will you do if more candidates come in?

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

i would like to help!!

OrbOrb,

Thanks

SMARTX'sSMARTX's,

see same!

Alexandre MattenetAlexandre Mattenet,

You should include the ladspa-caps plugins. (There’s a package in packman)

Marcos LobatoMarcos Lobato,

Bad news about packman. Lots of software on Packman may be illegal in some countries, especially ffmpeg, things like that, so… They shouldn’t be shipped by default.
There may be privative software too on there!

OrbOrb,

Can you tell me other packages that may be illegal?

Marcos LobatoMarcos Lobato,

I don’t specifically know which are illegal. Packman isn’t an illegal repository, but in some countries some packages are restricted.
As an example, I don’t ship commercial software and multimedia codecs by default in FlipOS.

OrbOrb,

But ffmpeg is open source. are you sure?

prizmprizm,

Just that some components are questionable legality. It’s opens-source, just that the code itself is potentially law breaking

jack_breezejack_breeze,

help on Dragon OS it says
the process for the desktop protocol died unexpectedly
in the desktop folder in KDE, do you know how to fix this?

OrbOrb,

Hmmm . . . just re-launch the appliance

prizmprizm,

Other things:

Switch out brasero for k3b, it’s kde native and far more powerful. As with F-Spot with digiKam. You’ll very likely notice the speed improvements!

Also the website isn’t looking too good. I’d be willing ton help though.

OrbOrb,

I need to replace F-Spot with digikam now because when I replaced brasero with k3b, brasero was required for F-Spot.

prizmprizm,

Some apps of interest:

*ZynSubAddFX: A power synth that’s more powerful than most commercial offers
*qjack: JACK daemon configurator
*ffmpeg: Powerful swiss army nife of video. There’s a handy frontend called WinFFMpeg too.
*Cheese: handy webcam tool
*A subtitle editor, look around, there are some kde3 and gnome ones around

I suggest also switching some apps to the KDE equals, mainly Rhythmbox for amarok, and DigiKam for F-Spot.

Also some software that could be removed:

*Xchat, pidgin handles IRC too.
*KMail, fat and most people can use webmail

OrbOrb,

I added ffmpeg long ago, I’ll consider the others.

I will keep Rhythmbox because it includes Jamendo and Magnatune.

prizmprizm,

Huh, I saw kdenlive didn’t pick it up though.

I’m pretty sure amarok supports those though, and does more thingers. And Digikam is much more feature-rich than F-Spot.

OrbOrb,

In fact amarok supports those, and others! sorry

M. Edward (Ed) BoraskyM. Edward (Ed) Borasky,

There are starting to be quite a few media appliances here. I’ve got one, AlgoCompSynth, and there’s another one that’s trying to be the successor to JAD. Any chance we could make a combined project / distro, along the lines of JAD, rather than having separate appliances and projects?

I’ve put mine in the Disters contest as a community project. There’s a bunch of code in mine that’s not in any repos, even Packman. At some point I’d like to package it in OBS.

OrbOrb,

No,
But thanks for the offer.

Flavio CastelliFlavio Castelli,

Hi Orb, congrats for your appliance. Just one question: why don’t you remove the Packman for Opensuse 11.0 repository? Your appliance is based on 11.3 and you have already added Packman for 11.3

OrbOrb,

Thanks! It will be removed in the next release

jack_breezejack_breeze,

Orb plz help when i test drived the Dragon OS the installtion was good but all the text, messages, on the desktop showed up as this: [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]

jack_breezejack_breeze,

nevermind i’m starting a new dragon a clean slate
and right now as im building it will include all essential software nothing more
it is 1.15gb

jack_breezejack_breeze,

plz look at my OS at http://susegallery.com/a/qKUXzw/dragon-os

jack_breezejack_breeze,

thxs orb tell me if there is any packages that need to be removed or packages that need to be added

Videosmil S.A.Videosmil S.A.,

The good linux sistem in spanish and catalan is Spear! www.spearweb.tk

Manuel EscuderoManuel Escudero,

Oh! here’s the webpage of Synthelos Linux: http://www.syntheloslinux.tk/ :)

Manuel EscuderoManuel Escudero,

I cloned yours to have an idea in what I was trying to build… At the end I didn’t use OpenMedia at all hahaha funny thing is I had to clone it many times… Anyway, look my O.S.

http://susegallery.com/a/GKa8xP/synthelos-linux

I had in mind building a Jacklab’s Successor… it’s also focused on Multimedia but more complete and keeping in mind the Musicians and also the final users :)

hellohello,

Ignore earlier comment

OrbOrb,

The yola one?

hellohello,

Yep

hellohello,

Hey why not use www.yola.com to make a site?

BobBob,

The sites you gave us to download the other stuff, well just download the rpm and upload it to suse studio.
Also remember when you remove the suse branding, add an Item to the desktop or the desktop folder will not be there. I learned my lesson with Kallas

OrbOrb,

Hi Bob, In the next release which is building right now. But I don’t think I will be released in the next 24 hours. Upgrading is rough, I had to delete 2 packages, and get rid of part of the default theme. So don’t do it unless you are fully prepared, I was not. But back to the point, when the next release comes those sites won’t be required.

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

Are You going to make a website soon?

OrbOrb,

Yeah, but I’m trying to find a good host.

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

ever tried 000webhost.com?

Oscar BreitkreuzOscar Breitkreuz,

i use webstarts, ive created a few websites with them and its pretty easy :)

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

no, they spam like crazy.

Oscar BreitkreuzOscar Breitkreuz,

i just checked my spam acc and WOW they do! sorry…

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

hey orb- any news on the website??

OrbOrb,

Yep, should be done soon. How’s Me-OS?

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

just about ready for release. Gotta do a test install on VB to make sure it is ready. Working on the website myself! Probably will release on Friday. So, dont release OpenMedia on Friday. Haha..

OrbOrb,

Actually if you look I already released it! Just go look at the version.

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

ahhh haha.. ok! Can you share a link to a test version of your site?

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

i deleted Me-OS alpha and now yours is in most popular :D

BobBob,

Why? I thought it was pretty good

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

Make room for the new version… its coming in about a week!

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

ok more like 4 weeks haha

Phoenix RobertsPhoenix Roberts,

hey thanks for cloning mine. i’m having some problems with my multimedia and was wondering if i could clone yours and search through the programs and then put what im missing in mine?

OrbOrb,

Sure!

prizmprizm,

Some media software I recommend:

*OpenShot: nice little consumer-level video editor.
*Ardour: Powerful audio composing tool.
*Jokosher: Simple audio composer.
*Blender: Powerful modelling software.

BTW, I suggest you should install the KDE Desktop Factory repo, slims down appliance size quite a bit. You will have to add KDM back though! Also, remove either Banshee or Rhythmbox, you only need one. Even better, replace them with a KDE native alternative.

OrbOrb,

Yeah, I’m actually getting rid of Banshee because Rhythmbox is so much better, In my next release. Coming out on August 1, I am so excited! Thanks for the suggestions.

Marcos LobatoMarcos Lobato,

I think Banshee is better, iPod support, DMP Support, amazon music store, blah blah.

OrbOrb,

When I was testing Jokosher, I couldn’t create a new project because It said . . . Unable to load required Gstreamer plugin: capsfilter. HELP!

prizmprizm,

If it was in testdrive: that’s normal: since testdrive has no sound subsystem, apps liek ZSNES and Jokosher will crash.

If it’s on a desktop, try installing some GStreamer codec.

Also expect me to release a lite version of your appliance. :)

OrbOrb,

Ok, But I would wait until my next release is out, then make a lite version, but it’s your call.

OrbOrb,

Clone while you can folks. When OpenMedia 2.0.0 comes out, cloning will not be allowed.

OrbOrb,

I’m pleased to announce that a new version of Open Media will be released on August 1st.

M StanescuM Stanescu,

Add more programs. Search deeper, you might find goodies.

meosaccount1meosaccount1,

I tried Orb! It was a fantastic Linux experience!!! The theme was great, and it was smooth. May i recommend, though, to try to take off that SUSE Thing that pops up right when KDE gets all loaded up.
Great Job Though!!

Marcos LobatoMarcos Lobato,

It’s called SUSEgreeter. I know hot to get rid of it. If Orb wants to remove it I can help :)

OrbOrb,

I would like to remove it. I always found it annoying. Please tell me how.

Marcos LobatoMarcos Lobato,

OK. You must:
1. Create a VMware image/hard disk/ Xen.
2. Testdrive it.
3. Close SUSEgreeter.
4. Open Konsole, write ’’sync’’ (without quotes) and press Enter.
5. Go to Modified files and click in Refresh changes
6. Search for an added file called SUSEgreeter in /home/tux/.kde/share/config
7. Mark it.
8. Scroll down and select ‘’Add selected files to appliance’’
9. Build your appliance.

OrbOrb,

Thank you
