Can someone look at my OS I made with this as the base? UNO-OS SUSE 2, please. Thank you.
This OS is awesome! I’m using it as a base for my current project and I don’t think I can get past 1.4.0; Upstream OS just adds everything! I love it!
Let me be more specific will this erase all things on my hard drive and give me this operating system instead of windows?
Yes, I belive so.
Will this format my hard drive and install this?
Slow.
now if only we could get rid of the “Built in Suse Studio” Part
Hello! Can I partner with you (well, my company) with OS development? We’re currently developing a lightweight, KDE4 OS. Email me @ transworld123@optonline.net if you’d like.
Deutsch
nicht schlecht
can you upgrade to openSUSE 12.1, is that easy for you to do ?
hallo nick! i have a problem! i want to create a Kubuntu like OS BUT i cant find which is the right repository that will make my appliance to llok like a Kubuntu OS, you have added the Google Desktop i386 but i cant find it? can you tell me which is this Magic repository? thank you in advance :D
NICE!!!
SPANISH
-Creo que es así, si alguno encuentra otra solución, que la publique.
Hello. I have the solution of the branding. I’m Spanish, sorry, translate with the translator :)
How DO You remove the branding?
How *bold*DO*bold* you remove the banding?
Wow, what an OS is this!
please tell me Nick, how to remove these suse studio brandings?
It is not Upstreameam OS 7. It is Windows 7! GOOD OS!
YAMIX Upbranch concept is out
WOW nice OS, Great as a Base OS for my OS i am making for my game (its called DarK OS and game called DarK CPPS)
Oh and what No Branding? Seems the built with suse studio is there so there is branding
That image can’t be removed. It’s created by SUSE Studio.
IT IS NOT LIVECD??? =(((
It is. Download the ISO, or the USB stick version.
i wish there was a faster way for them to install cause i cant wait
hey it wont let me use test drive could some one post a link to a video of it
nvm i will just download it
Your new website looks amazing! Especially compared to the old one (sorry)
Yeah, it’s a great template. MUCH better than my old site. Hehe :)
THIS is the BEST OS I have seen on here for a while!
Thanks!
Presenting our new website. Upstreamos.info! http://upstreamos.info/
Hi Nick i Think Your OS is amazing i would like to start a partnership with you, contact me @ bsforza70@gmail.com
i could provide a website and maybe a patent
They already have a web site!
What do you mean by no branding?
No SUSE logos, or branding.
I’m one of the the unlucky people with an x86_64 system. Please write a 64 bit version of Upstream!
Already done, but it’s a little out of date.

Hey Nick, (first of all, this OS is really great and professional looking— keep up the good work) I would really appreciate if you gave me some tips on how to improve the look and feel of my OS. I love the effects and stuff associated with yours! Thanks in advance.
Thanks!
You could always install new themes, update the logo, and of course install Compiz or something like that. Google is your friend for themes. :)
This IS the best OS yet!
Thanks :D
Does it work proper in Testdrive?
Yes it does! :)
Upstream OS 9 is now in development. Post your suggestions!
Sorry, mean’t Upstream OS 8. :)
LINK O.O <3
Still in development. :)
Oh, xD I thought it said up for download my bad :D
Maybe make the boot time a little faster.
Excellent, I’m speechless!
Also, don’t forget to visit and test out my OS. www.tinyurl.com/celero
Thanks!
hallo nick, how can i make a build here in suse studio like yours but to be kubuntu like, i have noticed that you have achieved this, so the question is: what repositories or packages shall i add on my build to seem like kubuntu?
p.s if i clone your OS and i add packages, repositories etc and build it only for hard disc format will i be ok? would it be working this way?
Cloning my OS, and just adding in the repositories you want would be the easiest method to achieve the Kubuntu look. :)
ok i ll do the way you say but i ll try your 11.3 version because i dont want the amazon ec2 repository inside, i love your OS, i ll post a link when i ll be ready :D
thanks for your time :D
Muito bom esse sistema operacional, muito impressionante!
Hi do you know how to get rid of this error:
kstartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. The error code is 3. Check your installation.
Thx,
Orb
Hmmm.. not sure. :/
Really cool ! I’d like to know more about how you made it… Very impressive !
If you have a bit of time, mind adding my email so we can talk ?

Email me, with your ideas/etc
nschaer@live.com
How did you get KDE 4 on there without having to use the SuSE version?
KDE 4 repository, and the Upstream packages.
Hey! Who wanna be a developer for YAMIX Longhorn?
Sure. Send me an email!

how do i add my own branding?
I Don’t Like it
Why?
I would recommend using SliM login manager, that way you could still have a functional, but much more aesthetically pleasing login manager. The default theme is Opensuse, but can be changed for branding.
Wery good job Nick… :)
Thanks!
I had a Problem with Login but heres a ide for your User login: Linux , USOS password Linux For my os its Pear or user and the password is always linux
How can you not made it an internet OS
Take away the password and make the user name more generic or make it auto login cause it is just like that until you completely install it and you dont want to enter that in for every testdrive.
Yeah, the guy who reviewed you also had to go back to your website and find out what the user name and password were.
reviewed jinx? jinx was reviewed or you meaning nick
Reviewed Nick
New release features simpler log in.
Um…I cant log in.
Username/password is: upstream
hallo nick, im preparing some new remixes! stay tuned :D
im sure that you will be amazed! :D
Upstream has been reviewed! http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20101129#feature
I’m not trying to be rude, but have you read the review? Most of it is saying very negative things about UpstreamOS.
how to remove the made with suse studio branding
once you have downloaded the live cd image extract all the files in the iso, find the pictures that are branded and you can edit them with an image editing program then burn the edited installation to a cd.
Great suggestion! Thanks Liam.
this only works if you have software that can add files to an iso because you need to keep the boot sector
ultra iso works well
nick, you can check this too if you want:
http://susegallery.com/a/dyOfJ3/kalliroe-os
its specialised for education and of course includes games for kids, all stuff is KDE, and KDE ROCKS!
test it if you want, and i ll be waiting for your comments/impressions :D
Very nice :)
err.. where’s the checksums? wanna verify my download before install.. thanks!
nick dont worry! everything’s cool!
the problem just solved by adding plasma themes, so ok
here it is:
http://susegallery.com/a/dyOfJ3/kibaris-os
full kde core appliances + koffice2 full suite inside :D
waiting for your comments! :D
Added a comment. ;)
hallo nick! i have cloned your distro and i make looooooots o changes [you ll see them when i ll publish the OS] and shows a message “desktop widget died unexpectly”
what’s this? what shall i add?
maybe plasma desktop?
can you help me?
err.. where’s the checksums? wanna verify my download before install.. thanks!
If you downloaded from here, or from my site, no need to verify downloads. It’s only hosted through my accounts. Not hosted on other sites. :)
oh, ok.. thanks!
MAKE IT MORE PERSONAL!
I don’t understand why you would put compiz in with KDE4
The all-new Upstream website:http://upstreamos.tk/

Thanks. Glad you like it :)
nick, its really great, if you dont have a problem i ll clone it and make more suitable for grapvhic design, i ll paste the url when it will be ready.

bravo :D
No problem! Go ahead. Can’t wait to see your OS :)
looks like alot of usefull programs how long did this take you
Upstream has been in development for a few months.
Cool……..could you please download mine…:)
My O.S: Mrxz’s Tech
The much slimmer version 6 released.
Updated site. http://upstreamos.tk/
Version 5.1 of Upstream is coming soon.
New Theme:
http://upstreamos.tk/
I can’t seem to remove the OpenSUSE branding to save my life, could you help me out? I’ve searched for the packages, and selected a few upstream ones, but I still see the “Made with OpenSUSE” logo when booting. Thanks!
As stated before, the Made with OpenSUSE logo CAN NOT be removed. The Upstream packages only remove Upstream branding in the actual OS. You can’t remove:
-Branding from the live installer
-“Made with OpenSUSUE” logo
Sorry about that. But sadly this is how SUSE Studio is setup.
Looks Like a great OS! From the screenshots, it looks as if you removed The made in SuSE Studio Icon. can you PLEASE tell me how you did that??
Thanks a million!
Josh
Hey Josh,
The made in SUSE Studio icon is still there. Sadly, it can’t be removed.. at least not yet.
And thanks for the comment. :)
No problem.. It must be in the system files somewhere. It has to be able to be removed.
It can be removed!
After you have downloaded the iso. image extract all the files in the iso, find the pictures that are branded and you can edit them with an image editing program then burn the edited installation to a cd.
Version 5.1 is coming soon.
Post your suggestions.
Version 5 has been released.
plz look at my OS at http://susegallery.com/a/qKUXzw/dragon-os
The new website is online: http://upstreamos.tk/
Website is down. Launching a new one. Installing a CMS.. maybe Drupal.
Version 4.1, with the factory build, and package errors, has been deleted. Right now, download and clone version 4.0.
Soon, I will release version 5. Any package suggestions?
Taking a poll. Keep the openSUSE factory-snapshot, or stick with stable for the next release?
Remove the 11.4 repository please! Or Persons will still get errors while
clonningyour OSalso, I want to say: there is a package conflict on your OS!!!!!! Please fix this quickly!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve already noticed it. It’s just a package not being compatible with openSUSE 11.4. I’m going to remove it, once I figure out which Upstream version is better.. 4.0 (11.3) or 4.1(11.4).
Wait………
How did you use OpenSuSE 11.4 as base?
IIRC it’s not avaliable in SuSE studio
I’m testing it by using this method. I removed the openSUSE 11.3 OSS package, and replaced it with factory-snapshot oss. I was thinking this worked.. but since my internet is acting screwed up, I may need someone to confirm if this worked or not. KDE did launch fine in test drive.
Old repo: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/
New repo: http://download.opensuse.org/factory-snapshot/repo/oss/README.BETA
4.1.0 with openSUSE 11.4 released. Use at your own risk.
Upstream OS now has a website.
Tell me what you think.
http://upstreamos.iblogger.org/
Fantastic.
Thanks.
Are you going to make a website soon?
Yep. Just sorting out some hosting issues. My old Gamefeed website has reached it’s MySQL server limit. I’m deciding on what to do about it.
Once that’s sorted, I’ll begin work on an Upstream website.
Version 4.0.0 released.
Upstream OS features a beautiful new logo, and wallpaper. I’ve also added 15+ packages.
http://i53.tinypic.com/207ky9s.png
V4 is coming.. No more KDE branding in the logo.
New, elegant logo, and beautiful wallpaper.
Preview: http://i53.tinypic.com/30vlvv6.png
The all-new Upstream, with website, is launching soon.
I think Upstream needs a new logo.. and a better site.
Version 3.1.0 released. This is a huge release. Upstream OS now comes with Java, Unrar, and TightVNC pre-installed.
Some other packages were also added.
How did you get Google Chrome onto your OS. I’ve searched high and low, and i’ve probably overlooked it.
You need to add the Google Desktop i386 repository. Then search “chrome” within the repo.
Here’s the repo URL. :)
http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386
Thank you for your help. I, like Orb, think this will be the next KDE reloaded because this is a fine OS you have.
No problem. Glad to help.
And thanks. I can’t wait to finish packaging the next release. :)
This is going to be the next KDE reloaded!
:D
I’m so glad it’s become popular. I worked hard on it. It’s an honor to see it advancing up through the popular list.
I’m gonna give this a try. Thanks for your work.
Hope you like it :)
Version 3.0.0 released.
A fancy new boot screen for the new version.
Here it is.
Upstream OS 64-bit version.
http://susegallery.com/a/xYfcF3/upstream-os-64-bit
Hello Nick,
could you please create a 64 bit version
Thank You
Clone it and build it in 64x Bit
:P
I have been considering a 64-bit build for quite some time. I was just waiting for someone to suggest it. I have already started working on it, and plan on releasing it tonight. :)
2.1.0 added tons of new packages.. including DOSbox, and some new games.
Thanks for all the downloads! Keep them coming guys. :) I’m open to suggestions for version 2.1.0 ;)
Hello,
i really love the design of this OS and i’m currently using it now. I was wondering, how did you get rid of the SuseStudio brandings. I’m fairly new at this. Any help will be much appreciated :)
Thank You
PS: Lovely OS Mr Nick :D
Thanks :D Glad you like it.
To remove openSUSE branding, simply go into the software tab of your OS, and in the search bar, type “upstream”. A list of all upstream packages will popup. Each of these packages will either remove openSUSE branding from an application, or the OS itself. :)
Feel free to ask for more help if needed.
Or, to be 100% sure, you can also ban the suse branding packages.
Version 2.0.0 released, with the newest KDE4 stable repo.
The next release will be 2.0.
It will feature the KDE 4 stable 11.3 repository, like “KDE 4 Reloaded”.
First new repository added: Google Chrome.
Upstream OS milestone 1.3 released. New “Oxygen” icons, and 40+ packages added.
I may release a GNOME version, or even a 64-bit version.
Taking suggestions for new packages as well.
I filed that as a bug during the transition from 11.1 to 11.2. A few months later I got an email saying it had been fixed in 11.3 / Factory and backported to 11.2. But apparently it hasn’t. Once the contest is over, I’ll hunt down the bug report and re-open it – right now I’m fine with a fully-openSUSE-branded appliance. ;-)
Have you ever managed to get the YaST openSUSE branding replaced/removed? Every time I’ve tried that, I get an unusable appliance.
Not yet. Damn thing doesn’t want to be messed around with. :P
Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be much of a workaround for it. Some things can’t be changed. Including the installer.
Upgraded to a new style.
Tell me what you think.
Old:

New:
http://i38.tinypic.com/2istytx.png
To save up space, I’ve deleted older releases: 1.0.0 and 1.1.0.
Taking application suggestions for the next release.
This is the most complete build. All new multimedia features. Plus Xen guest format.
Updates in version 1.2.0:
Upstream OS is now available in Xen guest format.
-yast2-sound
-dvd+rw-tools
-vorbis-tools
-grip
-ripit
-abcde
-gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good-extra
-audacity
-timidity
-vdr
-xawtv
-flac
Version 1.1.0 released.
Updates in version 1.1.0:
-WINE
-Sudo
-Flash
-OpenOffice Package
With these new packages, Upstream OS will support “.exe” files, and flash videos will now play in FireFox.
Releasing version 1.1.0 tonight.
Upstream OS is a fantastic OS. It has most of the the basic applications you need to get started. It does not have a speck of suse branding in it, except in the installer. It is beautiful, easy and very lightweight. I do think It could use some more software, but otherwise, I recommend it to every computer user that just needs the basic stuff. It is not to complex, but it does not need to be. Because when you have a OS (especially windows) you will not use all of the included applications. But I think every average user will use every application included in Upstream OS. Again I highly recommend it to users who just need basic applications. If there is another application you would like to have, just go online and download it. So if you are a very advanced computer user, you may want to check out another OS. But if all you need is basic applications Upstream OS is what you have been waiting for.
Thanks for the review! :D
I plan on adding in some more applications in a future update, including WINE.
Great!
Hey! if doing the exact thing my my next release of OpenMedia, check it out! Because I don’t like ANY of the suse branding, all of it will be upstream. I’m about to clone this now! I’ll write a review afterwards.
Comment away!
any screenshot of the actual desktop? i wanna see :)
Sure. Here you go :)

looks good!
Thanks :)
hi
i looked at the screenshot and it looks swweet! i am new to linux but am fed up with microshite wishitwouldwork. how easy would it be to add a LAMP enviroment to your os? i ask because i would greatly like a system i can server all my media on as well as normal use. also, where would i start when it comes to makin my own gui?
thanks muchly
To add a LAMP environment, clone my OS. Then open the software tab, and search the packages for “LAMP”. You’ll find two packages to add in, and install easily. :)
As for a GUI, that’s a little more complicated. Your best off staying with themes.
